The past week was a whirlwind for everyone in NYC tech. In November Amazon announced it would be building its HQ2 in NYC, opening a campus and bringing 25,000 jobs to the city. This decision laid the foundation for the largest economic development initiative ever in this town, and in all of New York state according to governor, Andrew Cuomo.
In addition to creating massive job opportunities, the original deal also included partnerships with public colleges, and $27 billion in new tax revenue to fuel priorities from transit to affordable housing — a ninefold return on taxes the city and state were prepared to forgo to win the headquarters.
